The Palace of Education and Social Economy
Classic Grecian architecture was reproducted in the great Palace
of Education. The beautiful colonnades on the four sides were in fine proportion
and the loggias offered an attractive promenade. The building covered eight
acres and stood on the east side of the Grand Basin, surrounded by lagoons.
Access was by means of several beautiful bridges. The cost of this palace
was $400,000. The educational exhibits showed everything from the kindergarten
to the highest university courses. A complete exhibit of laboratoy operations
was made. Technical and agricultural schools and commercial and industrial
training all had their place. A commercial school was in full operation.
In addition to the exhibits from many states and countries, five large cities
had independent exhibits. Leading colleges also had exhibits. A model lecture
hall, schools showing methods of training deaf, dumb and blind pupils; fine
art institutes and the work of polytechnic schools were among other features.
