Earlier this year I received a very nice e-mail from David Randall of
New Jersey. It described a stein that was purchased by his Great-Grandfather
at the fair. His Grandmother came into possession of it upon his death.
She recently in turn passed it on the David. After a few more e-mails David
was kind enough to send me 4 photos of his stein. This was originally going
to be the memorbilia piece for the month of March; well March and April
came and went; the photos were misplaced and found (our home is now much
cleaner from the experience). After compositing the photos into two images
they are now ready for the web and for all to enjoy.
The stein stands 6.5 inches in height from its base to lip. The base has a dimension of approximately 4 inches. The stein is porcelein and is a lithopane stein, which means that when you hold the stein up to light and look through the bottom a scene appears. This scene is accomplished using the thickness of the porcelein to block out the incoming light. The scene that appears on the bottom of this stein is of the Palace of Vaired Industries.
